NCD Alliance Malawi- WHO WE ARE

This alliance understands that NCDs are not isolated issue a synergistic approach therefore is paramount to effectively address NCDs.

As a low-income African nation, Malawi faces significant challenges in combating NCDs. Rising rates of these diseases place a heavy burden on individuals and healthcare systems. The NCDAMW, recognizing these challenges and the needs of people living with NCDs (PLWNCDs), stands as a pillar of hope.

The NCDAMW's governance structure ensures diverse perspectives and strategic direction. A Board of Directors, representing various NCD organizations, provides crucial policy and strategic guidance. Supported by the Secretariat, currently housed within the Women's Coalition Against Cancer (WOCACA) one of alliance active member. The NCDAMW's reach extends beyond national borders. Its membership in national and international networks, including the Global Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (NCD Alliance), enhancing collaboration and knowledge sharing, equipping the Alliance with valuable resources with regional and a global perspective.

By striving to unite various voices and forging strategic partnerships, the NCDAMW is playing an important role in addressing the growing NCDs challenge in Malawi. The alliance’s dedicated efforts offer hope for a future where all Malawians, regardless of their health status, can enjoy a healthier and more fulfilling life free from NCDs.

OLD PROJECTS

Advocacy Institute’s Seed Programme

The Advocacy Institute’s Seed Programme grant was implemented from 2020 to 2022 aimed to support alliance coalition building and establish foundations for effective NCD advocacy. This was possible with a grant from Helmsley Charitable Trust through NCD Alliance.

PLWNCDs and COVID-19 Seed Grant

The COVID-19 seed grant was implemented from July 2020 until December 2020. This grant was accompanied by technical assistance provided by the NCD Alliance to support the alliance in carrying out the project. Through this grant, the Alliance was able to identify activities most needed and relevant to the needs of People Living with NCDs in the COVID-19 period. The activities were earmarked at trying to map, understand, and address the needs and challenges of PLWNCDs, amplify their voices in advocacy and communications on COVID-19, with a view to protect their right to health and call for uninterrupted access to quality treatment and care.

Our Views and Our Voices

"Our Views, Our Voices" was a project aimed at seeking to meaningfully involve people living with NCDs in the NCD Alliance response, supporting and enabling individuals to share their views, take action, and drive change.

The 'Our Views, Our Voices' initiative was structured upon four fundamental pillars of action:

  1. Documenting Challenges: Highlighting and documenting the challenges faced by People Living with NCDs (PLWNCDs) amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Disseminating Preventative Measures: Dissemination of crucial preventative measures to mitigate COVID-19 risks among PLWNCDs.
  3. Advocating to Policy Makers: Engaging with policymakers to advocate for the recognition and prioritization of the challenges faced by PLWNCDs.
  4. Developing Educational Resources: Creating programs and informational booklets on the relationship between COVID-19 and NCDs.
